EPA Lead Safe Certified

Environmental Protective Agency

Lead paint poisoning affects over one million children today. Adverse health effects include learning disabilities, behavioral problems, and speech delays. If not done in a lead-safe manner, renovations and repair activities that disturb lead-based paint can expose children, as well as adults, to harmful levels of lead dust. On April 22, 2008, EPA issued a rule requiring the use of lead-safe work practices aimed at preventing lead poisoning in children. On April 22, 2010, the rule became effective and firms performing renovation, repair and painting projects that disturb lead-based paint in homes, child care facilities, and schools built before 1978 must be certified, individual renovators must be trained by an EPA-accredited training provider, and the firms and renovators must follow specific work practices to prevent lead contamination.

To become a certified renovator, individuals are required to take eight hours of training, of which two hours must be hands-on training, to become certified. This training is good for five years. In addition, renovation firms must be certified by EPA or by a state authorized by EPA to administer its own program.

Habitat For Humanity

Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing ministry. We seek to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness from the world and to make decent shelter a matter of conscience and action. To accomplish these goals, we invite people of all backgrounds, races and religions to build houses together in partnership with families in need.

Through volunteer labor and donations of money and materials, Habitat builds and rehabilitates simple, decent houses alongside our homeowner (partner) families. Habitat is not a giveaway program. In addition to a down payment and monthly mortgage payments, homeowners invest hundreds of hours of their own labor (sweat equity) into building their Habitat house and the houses of others.

Testimonials

"Our 20 year old AC & heating system was on its last leg and our electric bill was over $600 a month in the summer. We knew it was time to update to a new energy efficient system. McLay installed the proper sized unit for our 2 story home and added two new vents as well as a zoning system so that the upstairs is as comfortable as the downstairs. It has been 3 months now and we love, love, love our new system. We are already seeing a difference in our electric bill. We have used McLay for our kitchen and master bath remodels, our water heater, as well as our air conditioning maintenance over the years. We are now more comfortable and saving money thanks to McLay." William, La Verne

"I had (gotten) several estimates. McLay was the only one who actually went up in the attic and walked around checking ductwork and how to do the job. He also was the most knowledgeable compared to other heating and A/C companies that I had bids from. We decided to go with McLay and it was well worth it!" Sandra, Chino Hills

"I just wanted to take the time to compliment your organization for the quick response to my plumbing emergency. My wife saw water spilling out of our water heater onto the garage floor and called your office. She spoke to Jaye who told her she would get someone out there as soon as possible. Within an hour your technician arrived and evaluated the situation and told my wife that the unit needed to be replaced. He rebuilt the wooden stand and put in the new unit, secured it to the wall and removed the old one; all done in a timely manner. In today's world, customer service and customer satisfaction are the keys to running a successful business and your organization was outstanding in all areas. It was a pleasure dealing with all your employees." Brian, San Dimas
