Hacienda Heights is an unincorporated census–designated place in and below the Puente Hills of the San Gabriel Valley, in Los Angeles County, California, United States. As of the 2010 census, the community had a total population of 54,038, up from 53,122 at the 2000 census.Hacienda Heights is recognized for the Puente Hills Mall, which was also used as a filming location for the movie Back to the Future.
The Homestead Museum is a six–acre historical treasure nestled among the busy streets of the Hacienda Heights. Called "one of California's true historic treasures" by the Smithsonian Institution, the Homestead Museum provides a unique way to look at Southern California′s history from the 1840s, when this land was still part of Mexico, through the 1920s, when Los Angeles came to be known world–wide as a major metropolitan city.
Hacienda Heights is also the home to the Hsi Lai BUddhist Temple (meaning "Coming West"), the largest Buddhist temple in the Western Hemishpere. The temple′s Ming Dynasty (1368-1644 AD) and Qing Dynasty (1644-1911 AD) architecture is faithful to the traditional style of buildings, Chinese gardens, and statuary of ancient Chinese monasteries. Hsi Lai was built to serve as a spiritual and cultural center for those interested in learning Buddhism and Chinese culture.
Parks in the area include Los Robles Park, Manzanita Park, Pepperbrook Park and William Steinmetz Park.
