If you’ve been keeping up with HVAC technology trends, you’ve probably already heard about air scrubbers and how they help business owners maintain better indoor air quality in commercial spaces. In today’s post, McLay Services, Inc., shares an overview of the Carrier OptiClean™ Dual-Mode Air Scrubber & Negative Air Machine, named one of TIME Magazine’s 100 Best Inventions of 2020.

How It Works

Carrier invented the OptiClean for use in medical facilities at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. It’s designed as a standalone unit and doesn’t require ductwork to operate. With a footprint of less than three square feet, OptiClean can be placed in any optimal spot without getting in the way. It features a two-layer HEPA filtration system that can trap particles as small as 0.3 microns. The clean, “scrubbed” air will then be recirculated into the room.

Advantages

While there are similar devices on the market, commercial AC repair contractors recommend the Carrier OptiClean because of the following advantages:

Rapid deployment — The Carrier OptiClean is a standalone unit that can be used anywhere within the building. It comes on wheels and, after assembly, all you need is a nearby power outlet to begin using it. This means you can move it from room to room by simply turning it off, unplugging it and rolling it where needed.

High efficiency — Its dual HEPA filtration system can remove up to 99.97% of airborne particles as small as 0.3 microns. Like other types of systems that utilize such filters, HEPA filters require replacement three to four times a year.

Accommodates a wide range of room sizes — The Carrier OptiClean is available in two sizes: 500 and 1,500 CFM (cubic feet per minute), which can easily exceed the suggested number of filtered room air changes recommended by The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE).
